MEET THE DESIGNER
Rocky Rafaela was founded in 2016 by creative force Rochelle Gregory - a designer who turned her struggles into a statement.
From a life numbed by addiction and self-destruction, Rochelle was a teenager who didn’t want to live. She spent her reckless years self-harming, in and out of hospitals, locked inside clinics, and fighting seven mental health diagnoses by the age of 17. She was a girl the system failed - repeatedly.
But her story didn’t end there.
Rochelle found something the world never expected: purpose, power, and healing through creativity.
She rebuilt herself from nothing, travelling to Bali for deep healing, completing retreats, studying the science of change, and rewiring her identity through art and fashion. What began as survival became her superpower.
Within two years, she went from hospital beds to dressing some of the biggest celebrities in the world - and Rocky Rafaela was born.
After graduating from the Whitehouse Institute of Design in 2014 - while still navigating her mental health - Rochelle’s career ignited when she was selected to showcase her graduate collection at Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival. Fashion became her therapy - a lifeline.
“Designing melted away everything I was going through mentally; it was an energy flow I couldn’t ignore. I felt untouchable - more present than ever.”
Soon after, Rochelle made it to the final two candidates for an internship with Alexander Wang in New York. The spot ultimately went to someone else, but rejection didn’t break her - it built her.
Fuelled by raw determination, a fearless vision, and relentless creativity, Rocky Rafaela came to life.
Today, Rochelle and her brand are a mirror of each other - confident, passionate, unapologetic. Her personal journey - battles, breakthroughs, healing - shapes every intricate, hand-crafted piece she creates.
And while Rochelle has rebuilt her life, she is the first to say the journey isn’t perfect. She still faces challenges - the shadows of her past, moments of doubt, and the emotional patterns she continues to unlearn. But this is what defines her: every time she’s knocked down, she rises stronger. Every setback becomes fuel. Every challenge becomes another chapter in her transformation.
